Aluminum shading system on the island of Lampedusa: design and durability for commercial buildings.

REQUEST INFORMATION

In Lampedusa, ForMe Design’s Shading aluminum shading system defines the façade and canopy with certified finishes suitable for marine environments.

In Lampedusa, the aluminum shading system Shading wraps the building in a continuous pattern, transforming solar protection into a defining feature of the architecture.

Developed for Emmecci S.p.A., the project uses the fixed configuration of the ForMe Design system to create a lightweight and orderly envelope that complements the clean volumes of the building and the intense light of the island.

The sequence of vertical posts and horizontal slats defines the façades and extends across the canopy covering the external walkways. The dark finish creates a striking contrast with the light surfaces of the building, enhancing depth and compositional rhythm.

A continuous second skin

The vertical posts extend across the entire elevation, continuing in front of the window openings. The aluminum shading system Shading therefore follows a design independent of the position of the openings, creating a uniform reading of the façade.

The distance from the building envelope creates depth and modulates the entry of natural light. As the sun’s angle changes, slats and posts cast ever-changing shadows, altering the perception of the building throughout the day.

The fixed configuration ensures continuous protection without moving components, while maintaining a filtered visual connection between the interiors and the surrounding landscape.

Façade and canopy, one continuous design

Shading extends from the vertical surface to the canopy covering the external walkways. The overhead pattern reduces direct solar exposure and accompanies circulation areas, creating continuity between façades, entrances and outdoor spaces.

The use of a single system allows different applications to be resolved with formal consistency and installation precision. Façade and canopy thus become parts of a single architectural language.

Designed for sun exposure and marine environments

In Lampedusa’s climate, the aluminum shading system helps control solar exposure across openings and outdoor areas. Extruded aluminum provides lightness, stability and low maintenance requirements, essential qualities in a setting exposed to intense sunlight, wind, humidity and salt air.

ForMe Design offers Shading with DFV finishes certified according to international standards. QUALICOAT certification verifies the quality of the coating process, while the QUALICOAT SEASIDE extension requires specific surface preparation for products intended for coastal environments, helping to prevent corrosion. Class 2 RAL finishes also provide enhanced resistance to UV radiation, weathering and fading.

The project demonstrates how ForMe Design systems can combine solar protection, durability in marine environments and architectural identity.
