Solar Shading for Perry's Steakhouse in Arizona

REQUEST INFORMATION

Battens 50 by ForMe Design integrates solar shading and facade cladding at Perry’s Steakhouse in Arizona, with a custom configuration developed with Omnis Panels.

Aluminum Cladding and Shading System for Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Arizona

In Gilbert, within the Phoenix metropolitan area, Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille opened its first location in Arizona in 2026. Located within Northside at SanTan Village, the restaurant spans approximately 11,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 350 guests. The architectural design was developed by Aria Group Architects, with International Contractors Inc. serving as construction manager.

The facade features ForMe Design’s Battens 50 both as a solar shading system in front of the glazed surfaces and as cladding for the building’s opaque sections. This dual application allows the vertical rhythm of the profiles to continue across the different elevations, combining shading performance with the architectural composition of the facade.

The project was managed in the United States by Omnis Panels, ForMe Design’s official partner and distributor for the American market, and introduces a specific Battens 50 configuration featuring profiles with two different depths within the same composition.

Battens 50

Solar shading integrated into the architecture

In front of the large glazed surfaces of Perry’s Steakhouse, Battens 50 is used as an external shading system. The vertical sequence of profiles creates a screen between the exterior and the glass, reducing direct solar radiation. This function takes on particular relevance in Arizona, where intense sun exposure plays a key role in facade design.

The shading element, however, is not treated as a technical component separate from the facade. Across the opaque portions of the building, the same sequence of Battens continues as architectural cladding, creating visual continuity between glazed surfaces and solid areas. The result is a unified facade language in which aluminum shading and cladding are developed through the same system.

The arrangement of the profiles also creates a sequence of solids, voids and shadows that changes according to the angle of the light, making the shading function an integral part of the architectural composition.

Two depths to define the rhythm of the facade

One of the project’s most distinctive features is the use of Battens 50 profiles with two different depths within the same composition.

Developed specifically for Perry’s Steakhouse, this solution moves beyond a uniform surface layout: alternating depths vary the projection of the individual elements, introducing rhythm and variation across the facade while maintaining the same system technology. Rather than simply representing a profile variation, the solution provides a design opportunity through which depth, repetition and the arrangement of the Battens contribute to the overall definition of the facade.

A dedicated substructure and fixing detail was developed for this application, allowing both depths to be integrated within the same configuration. Perry’s Steakhouse represents the first application of this type within the projects managed by Omnis Panels.

One system, different applications

The use of Battens 50 in Gilbert highlights one of the system’s key characteristics: the ability to use the same architectural element to address different functions within the building envelope.

In front of the glazing, the profile works as a vertical aluminum fin for solar shading. Across the opaque surfaces, it becomes part of the cladding. Through variations in depth, it also contributes to the three-dimensional composition of the facade.

This continuity avoids a visual separation between the technical element and the cladding, maintaining a coherent architectural language across the different elevations of the building.

For the North American market, ForMe Design systems are also supported by international testing and certifications, including ICC-ES Listing ESL-1670, AAMA 2604 and 2605, QUALICOAT and QUALIDECO.

ForMe Design and Omnis Panels in the United States

The Gilbert project also provides a concrete example of the collaboration between ForMe Design and Omnis Panels, the brand’s national partner for the U.S. market since 2024.

In the United States, Omnis Panels supports the application of Battens Light, Battens 50 and Cladding systems, creating a connection between the technology developed by ForMe Design and the design and construction requirements of the North American market.

At Perry’s Steakhouse, this collaboration led to the development of the Battens 50 configuration with two different depths, adapting the system to the specific requirements of the project.

The Gilbert project demonstrates how Battens 50 can be used simultaneously as an aluminum shading element and as cladding, maintaining system continuity while giving designers the opportunity to work with depth, rhythm and the visual perception of the facade.
