Battens Light and Battens 50 define the aluminium cladding of a luxury villa in Cervia, combining large glazed surfaces, screening elements and wood-effect finishes.
In Cervia, a contemporary villa establishes a connection with the surrounding landscape through a balance of transparency, materiality and light. The large glazed surfaces on the ground floor open the interiors towards the garden and swimming pool, while the upper level gains greater architectural presence through a vertical pattern that defines the volumes and frames the openings.
Within this composition, ForMe Design aluminium cladding becomes an integral part of the architecture. Battens Light and Battens 50 perform different functions while maintaining a consistent design language: they clad the volumes, screen the glazed surfaces and introduce a vertical rhythm that enhances the composition of the façade.
Bringing the two applications together is the Volcano Ash HD318 wood-effect finish from the PoP Collection, selected to create a dialogue between the precision of aluminium, the villa’s light-coloured surfaces and the pine trees that characterise the surrounding landscape.

A rhythm designed around the architecture
Battens Light and Battens 50 follow the same compositional principle: verticality. The regular sequence of profiles complements the geometry of the villa and helps shape the perception of the façades through rhythm, depth and changing patterns of light and shadow.
On the upper floor, Battens Light defines the volumes and characterises the surfaces of the building envelope, while across the large glazed openings Battens 50 functions as a solar shading system, integrating screening directly into the architectural design.
The arrangement of the profiles helps control the amount of light entering the façades most exposed to solar radiation, while preserving the visual connection between the interiors, the garden and the swimming pool.
Cladding and solar shading are thus brought together within a single architectural gesture: elements serving different functions while sharing proportions, rhythm and materiality within the same aluminium cladding system, contributing to the continuity of the building envelope.
A solution tailored to the project
The customisation of ForMe Design systems goes beyond the choice of finish. The arrangement, orientation, spacing and configuration of the profiles can be calibrated to the building’s geometry, allowing the system to adapt to the specific requirements of each project.
In the Cervia villa, this flexibility allows Battens Light and Battens 50 to be used for different applications without disrupting the visual continuity of the façade. The former complements and defines the volumes of the upper floor, while the latter provides solar shading across the large glazed surfaces.
The system therefore follows the designer’s concept, offering freedom in defining proportions, profile density, the relationship between solid surfaces and openings, and the interaction with light. Aluminium is not used simply as a finish applied to the building, but as an element capable of contributing to the construction of the building envelope and to the perception of the architecture itself.
Volcano Ash, materiality and landscape
The Volcano Ash HD318 finish from the PoP Collection gives aluminium a wood effect characterised by linear grain patterns and visual depth.
Applied to the vertical profiles, the finish follows their development and creates a material contrast with the villa’s light-coloured surfaces, glass and surrounding vegetation. The relationship with the pine trees surrounding the house comes from affinity rather than imitation. Texture and colour introduce a reference to natural materials, while the geometric precision of aluminium preserves the contemporary character of the project.
The same finish applied to both the Battens Light and Battens 50 aluminium systems reinforces the visual continuity of the building envelope: cladding and solar shading share the same material palette and become part of a unified architectural composition.
Performance serving design
The visual lightness of the façade is matched by the technical performance of the system. Aluminium combines low weight, dimensional stability, resistance to weathering and minimal maintenance requirements, making it particularly suitable for exterior architectural applications.
ForMe Design aluminium cladding systems are tested for wind resistance, impact resistance and reaction to fire, while DFV finishes are produced through certified processes compliant with international standards for coated and decorated aluminium. The EPD certification also provides designers with verified data on the environmental impact of SKIN systems.
In the Cervia villa, Battens Light and Battens 50 translate different requirements into a single architectural language: cladding, solar shading, materiality and light work together to define a contemporary building envelope, designed in relation to both the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
